Putting the fun in run

We did it!

Bree and I conquered our first 8km run in the 2014 Mother's Day Classic on Sunday.

I am so proud of our efforts - I ran the whole way without stopping and even mastered the Anderson Street Hill. I think I even overtook someone at some stage! That NEVER happens!

It was an early start on Sunday and I was sick with nerves, but Bree and I got into our zone, talked about random things (like my date on Friday night) and cranked up the beats (Florence and the Machine was a fave as well as Daft Punk. And Zac Brown Band for a bit of country!).

I am not a natural born runner. I don't have a natural technique and I look like such an unco, but Bree fired me up a few weeks ago and made me believe that I could do it. She is so determined and inspiring and I'm glad I've got her to give me the kick up the bum when I need it. Luckily, we run at the same pace and it's so nice to have that constant to your right. Makes the hour fly and full of fun.

We smashed it in less than an hour (it's not about the time, people, it's about the achievement) and are looking forward to our next fun run.

Who would've thought!?

If only for a second

Any excuse

With water safety issues a huge concern in Brisbane at the moment, I thought this message was appropriate!

No really, my heart goes out to those who are affected by the latest flood crisis in Queensland and New South Wales. You just can't take a break, lots of the victims are yet to recover fully from the 2011 floods. It's tough going.

However, it's times like these when Australians band together. Every little bit counts so if you want to contribute to the Red Cross Floods Appeal, please click here.

PS. On a total side note, my blog has cracked a tanty (probably due to the lack of attention I've paid it) and my sidebar has dropped off and plopped itself at the bottom of the page. Any idea how to fix it?

Kony 2012

Have you been caught up in the Kony 2012 phenomonon sweeping social media this past week?

It's amazing to think the power of Facebook - that's how I found out about it - and how quickly something can become 'viral'

I watched the movie last night - everyone on Facebook said I had to - and I have to admit I was moved. There were tears, I signed the pledge, I almost bought my Action Kit.

But then today I've been confronted by a lot of nay-sayers who are critical of this campaign and the charity behind it, Invisible Children.

They say this is old news, bigger fish to fry, the charity is greedy, American involvement is dangerous blah blah blah.

So I'm confused. I'm not sure who to believe.

The charity girl in me says get on board, help make a difference, do your bit.

But the journalist in me says there must be more to this story and be wary of the hype.

What do you all think?
