Having worked in a top tier law firm, I am well aware of the woman who wants to be one of the men.
She wants to be seen as an equal, given the same opportunities and rewarded on her merits.
She even shakes hands like a bloke.
But in doing so, are we 'betraying our girlhood'?

I'm a girly girl, there's no doubt about it. Bows, pearls, ponytails, pink lippy and frills.
And I think it's fair to say my fellow bloggers are girly girls too.
But what's to say a girly girl can't kick goals in this big scary world of ours? Look at Quentin Bryce for example. She's the epitome of style and success. And she's a lady.
So let's embrace it, don't hide it, and be kind to our friends who feel the need to squash their penchant for pink.
They'll thank you when they discover the perfection of a ladylike cup of tea out of fine bone china (once they get over the rose print!).

As a designer that works closely with a number of local builders that part of my job is almost completely male dominated. I have to admit I felt the pressure to wear black business suits and look simple and professional. But then I realised, I have a creative job, I'm a creative girly girl, and if I want to wear high heels or frilled tops I can.
They may tease me when I get out of the car on site in red stilettos but as long as I know what I'm talking about (and keep a spare pair of flats in the car; have you ever tried walking over a building site in heels?!) I'll be fine!

Great post Miss Kate! I work in a big law office (don't hold it against me!) and am very much a girly girl. I proudly hang my David Austin rose calendar on my office wall and love my cinched at the waist skirts. Luckily I can say it's never got in the way of my career :)
